Toronto Police Service Arrests Suspect in Human Trafficking Investigation

Toronto, ON — The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has announced the arrest of a man in connection with a human trafficking investigation, in an ongoing effort to protect vulnerable individuals and hold those responsible accountable. (Toronto Police Service)

On January 30, 2026, investigators from the Human Trafficking Enforcement Team arrested 46-year-old James Kenneth West of Brampton following a lengthy probe into alleged trafficking activities in southern Ontario.

Investigation Details

The investigation, which was launched by the Human Trafficking Unit in 2024, uncovered evidence that the accused had allegedly used deception, coercion and control to exploit a female victim over several years — from 2013 through 2016.

According to the TPS release:

  • Ads for sexual services were purportedly created and posted online by the accused.
  • The suspect allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted the victim.
  • The victim was believed to have been trafficked within various parts of southern Ontario.

Charges Laid

James Kenneth West faces multiple serious charges, including but not limited to:

  • Trafficking in Persons Under 18 by Exercising Control
  • Procuring a Person to be a Prostitute
  • Sexual Exploitation of a Young Person
  • Assault and Sexual Assault
  • Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services
  • Financial Benefit from Trafficking and Live on Avails of Prostitution

These charges reflect the seriousness of the alleged offences and demonstrate the TPS commitment to pursuing human trafficking crimes to the fullest extent of the law. (Toronto Police Service)

Public Assistance and Next Steps

Investigators have expressed concern that there may be additional victims, and have released images related to the case to assist in the ongoing investigation.
